Sme Bullseye Camera Systems Review

Long

Sme Bullseye Long Range Camera

I recently ordered and just received the 500 yard Bullseye Camera Systems camera. At the request of a couple of forum members, here is some of my experiences after one day.
The unit is nice. It comes in a foam fitted box that holds all the gear. All of the equipment in the box stays down range with the camera, so it works out well holding the Wi-fi router and battery. The camera mounts to a tripod and plugs into the battery.
The system requires a computer to run the software and receive the signal from the wireless router. I am using an HP Mini with Windows XP. Newer Windows systems will work as well and if I remember Window 2000 and maybe Windows 98 but confirm that from Bullseye Camera Systems.
The Mini is difficult to see in bright light, a condition that I new as this is the computer I use at the race track to download data from my race car. A bigger lap top with a better display would probably work better. A light shield might be in order.
Bullseye Camera System is supposed to working on an iPhone/iPad app and an Android app. I think the iPad app would be nice. I am not sure the small screen of the iPhone would be useful.
The system is a little short on instructions. One laminated card on two sides and a troubleshooting sheet. If nothing goes wrong, the instructions are great. For some reason, my computer connected to the router but, at first, the software could not find the camera. After pushing buttons on the router and then reprogramming the router, the software found the camera and it works.
I e-mailed Bullseye Camera Systems customer support in the wee hours of the night and since they are on the opposite coast from me, i really did not expect a quick reply. I downloaded instructions on the router from the router's manufacturer and was easily able to correct the problems i caused. I e-mailed Bullseye Camera Systems again to say i corrected the problems.
I have tried out the camera system and the software could pick out 20 caliber holes.
The zoom function for the camera really just looks at a smaller portion of the picture as opposed to really zooming the camera. As a result, at the position I placed the camera, the resolution was quite poor. If the software did not 'flash' the new hole in the target, It would have been difficult to see. Placing the camera closer to the target would help.
Activating the computer out at the target when setting up the system might help in optimizing the camera location. I still need to experiment with this. At longer distances with bigger targets, the camera would be a bit farther from the target to see the hole thing.
The laser pointer co-located with the camera works great in getting the camera aimed.
There are some comments about having the camera in harms way. It is a concern that I have and will not use the camera when I do not know exactly where the bullet will go. An armor plate is extra work, but shooting out the camera is a bummer. i have not come to a solution here.
I used my system at 100 yards. As long as the wireless link works, the picture in the software will show the bullet holes since the camera is approximately the same distance from the target regardless what the shooting range is.
As far as pictures, Bullseye Camera Systems has some good pictures and videos on the system that I cannot improve on. The web site is..

So far, I see some promise for the system. It should be very helpful at longer ranges. I still need to do some more work with the system.
Hope this helps.
